This presentation is conducted by Kendra, Heather and Eugina. Their topic is Sound In Design. Sound is one of the most commonly used design language in our daily but usually being oversee. The team introduced a brief history with multiple examples of how sound involved in products we use daily, and then introduce six ways that people perceive sound.

One of the ways that stood out to me was the Episodic Memory which when a particular sound or piece of music evokes a powerful memory. We all experienced this in our life--especially if you were with someone who share the same experience with you when the moment you experience the Episodic Memory, the memory would stick longer. I can't help thinking how this co-experience phenomenon could happen in our digital world? Could a music become a step-stone for provoking same emotion for public? Another method that stood out to me was the Evaluative Conditioning. The team actually gave a very good example which is the McDonald's advertising background music (da da da da da ---If you able to recall song in your head just by reading these characters, that always proved how powerful this method is--this is probably why it is so crucial and valuable way for a company to build up a brand.

The team also introduce some principle of when to use and when not to use sound in design which was very helpful. You don't want to use sound in design when--uIs that require privacy or discretion( like bank or personal information),  users who have requested no interruption, actions that are performed frequently.

Thanks for this team, they really introduce some insightful content in this presentation and I can see myself applying some of the principle later on in my design.
